Another year has gone by again. Have you reflected on the past year? In 365 days, we must have done something terrible. Even though we have done something terrible, we must forgive ourselves. God has already forgiven us since we asked Him to.
The important step we need to take is making sure we do not repeat the mistakes. The new year is like a fresh chapter. So we need to make resolutions to become better people this year.
It is easy to make a list of a new year's resolutions. The difficult task is acting on the resolutions throughout the year.
We should not feel guilty about this because it is normal as humans. It is why we must ask God for divine grace to act on our resolution in 2022.
Some of us might not know what to add to the resolution list. That is okay. Here are 6 bible inspired new year resolutions to take as Christians.
"And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ"
"Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise." *Taking wine and alcohol is okay. But we should not overdrink such that we cannot control ourselves. We should also avoid making overdrinking a habit this year.
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
*We should worry less about the future this year. God has a lot of good things in store for us.
" Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God."
"26 Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and give no opportunity to the devil." *People must always do things that make us angry. As humans, the feeling of anger is okay. But we must not act foolishly because of anger. We must also not keep malice with people because they made us angry.
“You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.” *We should always be content with what we have. We should also rejoice with our neighbours when something good happens to them instead of being envious.
"But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil."
"A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself." *We should endeavour to be kind to everyone this year.
"It is well with the man who deals generously and lends; who conducts his affairs with justice."
"He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness."
"Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” *As God has blessed us, we have to bless others. We do not have to wait for them to ask us.
We are humans, and as humans, we are not perfect. Our deliberate effort to be better people matters. It shows that we are not comfortable with bad habits.
Every day this year, we must try to act on our resolution. In doing this, it becomes a natural habit to us.
