Loss is an inevitable part of life but still, nothing prepares us for the death of a loved one. Regardless of a long-time sickness being the cause or a sudden tragedy, we are still thrown off balance and into a wave of vulnerability and brokenness. Suddenly, we feel so open and lost. The loss of a loved one creates a hole in our hearts that leaves us empty. Truly, it's an irrecoverable loss accompanied by the now almost nonexistent liife we had with them.

It's necessary to pull ourselves out of this dark space. God is a safe space for us to bring our feelings of confusion, hurt, anger and pain to so he can heal us and strengthen our weakened hearts through the healing process. The scriptures are an important way we can go about healing the pain of the loss of a loved one. They shed light on our hearts and bring in hope that we long for.

1 Corinthians 15:42

"It is the same way with the resurrection of the dead. Our earthly bodies are planted in the ground when we die, but they will be raised to live forever."

Words of Hope: There is a life after death. A glorious life that they have gone to live.

2 Corinthians 4:17-18

"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

Words of Hope. This pain will surely pass. Fix your eyes on God and ask Him for strength to overcome this.

2 Corinthians 5:8

"We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord."

Words of Hope: Our loved ones are in a better place! They rest in the bosom of the Lord, free from the pain of this world. Rejoice in this.

Romans 14:8

"If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord."

Words of Hope: Everything that happens is to the glory of God.

Revelation 21:4

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Words of hope: A time will come where there will be no more mourning or tears. This is a season that will come to an end.

Psalm 147:3

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

Words of Hope: God mends the torn heart. He can fix yours. There is hope and beauty in God yet unseen. There is so much in store for you.

John 14:1

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me."

Words of Hope: God is in control of the situation. His hands are upon our lives and Ge sees our pain. Trust in Him and be at peace.

Joshua 1:9

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Words of Hope: Do not be weary. Be strong at heart for God is by your side. Draw strength from God and your friends. The Lord is with you.

Romans 8:28

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

Words of Hope: ALL things are working together for YOUR good. The plan that God has for you is unfolding.

Matthew 5:4

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."

Words of Hope: God is your comfort. He will fill that hole.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

"Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him."

Words of Hope: Your loved ones are surely with Christ, the One they served. Do not mourn in ignorance. As you grieve the loss, celebrate with the Heavens.

1 Thessalonians 4:17-18

"After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words."

Words of Hope: We will join them soon with Christ.

Psalm 48:14

"For this God is our God forever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end."

Words of Hope: If you have lost a parent, a parent figure, or a leader, remember this verse. God will continue to lead you.

Psalm 46:1

"God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble."

Words of Hope: Make Him your abode. He is waiting for you to ask Him for help.
